Research reveals gender bias in online images of professions
Women underrepresented and portrayed as less-professional
CBC Radio interviewed Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Cynthia Matuszek about her research. She and colleagues explored how online image searches for various professions portray genders. They found that not only are women systemically underrepresented, but gender bias in online images can influence people's perception about the real gender distribution in professions.
