Research Proposal and Writing Toolkit

This UMBC Research Proposal and Writing Toolkit is a living document that will be reviewed and adapted at regular intervals.

UMBC Research Proposal and Writing Toolkit (must be logged into myUMBC to access)

The information and materials in this toolkit are intended to serve as a guide and a resource that may be useful for grant proposal submissions, award nominations, or other similar opportunities. In particular, wording about UMBC is meant to offer a starting point for how researchers can communicate our institutional strengths in ways that are in alignment with current federal funding guidelines.

Colleagues are strongly encouraged to review, adapt, and customize the content or wording offered in this toolkit in ways that reflect your own voice and that are tailored to your specific goals, context, and intended audience. Text in proposal sections which some sponsors require, such as “Broader Impacts” and “Facilities, Equipment and Other Resources,” may be subject to rules (and tools) related to plagiarism, so it is recommended that each proposal you write be entirely in your own words.

We hope this toolkit will be useful to researchers across disciplines. If there is information you’d find helpful to include in the future, please contact ord@umbc.edu to share your ideas.
