When project dates change how should budget periods be updated?
The system prefers that you edit the dates on the Basics>proposal details page first.
Then, in the Budget before any other action, please, use the “Reset to Period defaults” button. This will set the budget periods to conform with the new project dates.
Remember to check the dates of performance for any personnel as they may change with the Reset and revise as appropriate, if needed.
Can I copy a proposal budget from another proposal?
YES! Just use the Proposal Copy function and include the budget. Remember, when copying a proposal, in order to make sure you are using the correct rates, use the synchronize (sync) your proposal rates table to the institutes by clicking Sync All Rates or the Sync to Current Institutional Rates for the rate tab shown at the top of the Rates Panel.
How can I change the Kuali default budget rates?
Navigate to the Budget Rates Panel. There are three types of rates in the Kuali Rates Panel. Each will show and on and off campus line item, based on fiscal year. These are the DEFAULT rates for your budget and can be modified by the user for each of their own proposal budgets. Changes made to this screen will only have an effect on this proposal. How do I enter Tuition Payments in a Kuali budget?
Use the Non Personnel Panel in a Detailed Budget. Enter the Expense item Category Type: Other Direct, Category: Other Direct Expenses, Object Code name Tuition.
Is there a way to enter only summary budget information in Kuali?
Yes. Enter summary budget information in the Budget Summary screen. Enter Direct Costs, Indirect Costs, Under Recovery and Cost Sharing amounts as applicable by project period. Then upload the detailed budget in the attachments.
How do I print out a copy of my proposal budget?
- Click on Budget Versions.
- To the far right of the budget, click the Actions dropdown arrow and click “Print”.
- Click the checkbox of the desired Report, then click Print.
How do I mark my final budget “For Submission?”
While in the Proposal screen, click the Budget panel. For the Budget Version that you want to submit which should have a Status of “Complete”, click the Actions button in the Actions column and select Include for Submission.
When I close my proposal budget, the system takes me out of my proposal! How can I stay in my proposal continue working?
The Close button will take the user out of the proposal budget and the proposal. If the user wishes to stay in the proposal, use the “Return to Document” button, then and navigate back to the proposal, using the “Return to Proposal Arrow at the top of the left-hand navigation panels.
My Sponsor is planning to fund part of the F & A for my project as external contribution. How do I enter this in my proposal budget?
Open your Kuali detailed budget, Non-Personnel subpanel. Add the sponsor as a sub-contractor in the non-personnel direct costs. For the actual cost, you would put $0. Then click details/cost share and add the actual amount being contributed as cost share.
Is F & A to be charged for a Federally Sponsored Project’s Participant Support Costs?
The Uniform Guidance states that Participant Support Costs are exempt from F&A in federally sponsored projects.
To enter in a participant support cost in Kuali, use the Non Personnel Panel in a Detailed Budget. Enter the Expense item, depending on the cost needed under Trainee/Participant Costs.
For Non-Federal awards, sponsor-specific and/or award-specific guidelines should be utilized to determine if F&A is allowable on the Participant Support Costs. If there is no sponsor‐specific or award‐specific guidance, then the full F&A rate for the award should be charged. Contact your OSP Grants Manager for more information on how to enter Non-Federal Awards participant support F & A.
