 Institutional Biosfaety Committee Review

The UMB Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) will perform review and oversight of “covered research” for IMET researchers that are subject to the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules. Such research involves the use of with recombinant DNA molecules, organisms and viruses containing recombinant DNA molecules, human gene transfer, as well as the deliberate transfer of DNA, or DNA or RNA derived from recombinant DNA into human research participants.

The IBC will review and approve all protocols for proposed covered research, but it is your responsibility to follow the appropriate procedures to do so. Registering of such research may be done by following the instructions on the UMB Research Registration website.  All investigators must also participate in the appropriate training to ensure adherence with university and regulatory compliance guidelines.
